FAQs
How does EV charging work?+
Every EV runs on electricity, so it needs to be charged with electricity! EV chargers draw electricity from the electrical grid and deliver it to your vehicle’s battery. This can be done at your home, work, or anywhere that has a compatible EV Charger.
How can I start charging my EV at home?+
Most EVs come with a standard Level 1 Charger that will charge your car in 48+ hours. We recommend a Level 2 Charger installation from Solar Power of Oklahoma that requires a hardwired installation and licensed electricians, which can charge your car in less than 6 hours.
Do I purchase my own EV charger or can you do that for me?+
Whichever way works best for you. If you purchase a charger from a dealership or your car’s manufacturer we can install the one you have on hand. Or, if you prefer, we would be happy to purchase the charger for you and have it ready at your installation date. Typical wait time to get an EV installation crew out to your home is just 2-3 days.
I already purchased an EV charger, is that ok?+
Absolutely. We can install any charger brand on the market.
How much maintenance does my EV charger need?+
Your charger shouldn’t require any maintenance. However, if there is an issue, your charger should come with a warranty depending on the charger brand. Should something arise, our full-time service crew can come fix or replace your charger.
How fast will a Level 2 EV charger charge my vehicle to 100%?+
It depends on how low your battery is at the time you start charging it. If you are at 0% battery, it will take approximately 6 hours for the average EV. Times can vary depending the size of your car’s battery.
How often do I need to charge my vehicle?+
You can charge your car as often as you would like to start each day with a full charge. Chargers will stop charging the vehicle when the battery is full to protect the battery and not run up your electric bill.
Will I need a Main Panel Upgrade (MPU) to get a Level 2 Charger?+
As long as your panel is up to electrical code and has the available space we can install the charger for its max charge rate. If it is out of electrical code, or doesn’t have available amperage you will require an MPU, which we can take care of when we come to install your charger.
What car manufacturers do you install chargers for?+
We can install every type of charger for every car manufacturer. We have all the necessary certifications to install any type of charger you need.
Does Solar Power of Oklahoma use licensed electricians?+
Yes, we do! We have 10+ licensed and experienced electricians ready to install your EV charger quickly and efficiently. EL#OK036858
Will charging my EV at home raise my electric bill?+
It will. Since you are using more electricity, your electric bill will rise depending on how much you are driving and how much you are charging. If you were to drive 12,000 miles in a year, you can expect your bill to raise $30-$40 per month.
If you would like to have a solution to reduce your energy bill we would be happy to design a solar system to offset your heightened electric bill.
What does it look like to charge my vehicle with solar panels?+
If you have solar panels on your home they will generate renewable energy that can go directly to your car if you are charging your EV during the day. Since you are producing your own energy and charging your car from your panels, you can drive your EV free of charge and free of emissions!
